Jim Conway, world recognised harmonica player, is the sum of many parts. Afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis, he is a person of determination, not only a survivor of the music scene but a survivor in life against all the odds. MS has not only affected Jim but also his family, friends and colleagues within the music industry and others in the field of MS. A documentary filled with humour, poignancy and music about one of Australia's most inspirational and colourful identities.
Producer Victor Carson came to the project essentially from a fan's point of view. A music and film buff from way back, he has produced two other low budget documentaries ("Hot Gospel" and "Sea Stories") but this was the documentary he had always wanted to make. An owner of a Sydney nightclub in the mid 80's where entertainment was booked on the basis of Victor's favourites meant meeting performers such as the Conway Brothers. This venture resulted in an enjoyable financial disaster. Jim was able bodied at this point but fell over on stage one night. Naturally everybody there thought that he had too much to drink or smoke and laughed it off. Actually, Jim had recently been diagnosed with MS and was not telling anyone. Victor was taken not only by his harmonica playing but also his sense of humour and was somewhat taken aback to see him five years later confined to a wheelchair but performing better than ever. Inspired by Jim's attitude to his incredibly difficult situation, Victor was determined to complete the documentary. The producers ran out of money a couple of times and eventually mortgaged their house to finish it off after some 18 months. They are extremely proud of the finished product
